How to Stay Calm When Everything Around You Isn’t

Hey,

I went on a podcast this week, and one of the questions really hit me: “How do you stay calm when everything around you feels chaotic?”

I paused. Took a breath.
And I said this: “Because I’ve learned not to let the storm outside become the storm inside.”

Some of you know I’m a believer, and this took me straight back to one of my favourite moments in the Bible, Jesus and the disciples in the boat (Mark 4:35-41).

A violent storm hits.
Waves crashing. Wind howling. Panic everywhere.
And what’s Jesus doing?

He’s sleeping.

The disciples are losing it.
They wake Him up like, “Don’t you care that we’re about to die?”
And Jesus, calm and composed, stands up and simply says:
“Peace, be still.”

The storm listens.
The wind stops.
The sea goes still.

And then He turns to the disciples and asks:
“Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

That’s the blueprint there.

Because life will bring storms.
Sudden, loud, messy chaos that threatens to knock everything over.
Business gets shaky. Health takes a hit. People disappoint you. Plans fall through.

But real power is in how you respond.

1. You can’t control the storm but you can control the internal weather

If you react to everything, you’ll be ruled by everything.
Staying grounded doesn’t mean ignoring reality, it means not letting it shake your peace.

2. The calmest person in the room holds the most power

Whether in boardrooms or boats, chaos always exposes leadership.
Stillness isn’t weakness, it’s clarity under pressure.

3. Faith is the anchor when logic fails

There will be moments when nothing makes sense.
When all your plans fall apart.
That’s when faith steps in.
Not blind hope, but deep conviction that the storm isn’t the end of the story.

Non-Negotiable Action for the Week
Take 15 minutes of complete stillness every day this week. No phone. No music. Just you, your breath, and your thoughts. Let the chaos swirl outside—but protect your peace within.

Quote of the Week
"You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf." – Jon Kabat-Zinn

The storm might be loud right now.
But don’t forget you have the authority to speak peace into it.
Not because you’re perfect, but because you’re anchored.

Stay bold. Stay relentless.
